30 Years Ago Today – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Release ‘Into The Great Wide Open’ LP

30 years ago today (7/2/91), Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers release Into The Great Wide Open, their eighth LP and one that followed Petty’s solo debut Full Moon Fever released in April of 1989. Along with the title track that received consummate MTV play, Into The Great Wide Open featured the singles “Learning To Fly,” “Out in the Cold,” “Too Good To Be True” and others that all followed the “don’t bore us take us to the chorus” songwriting creed.
