34 Years Ago Today – Jimmy Page Releases Debut Solo LP – Soundtrack to ‘Death Wish II’ (Watch “Who’s To Blame” Live ’83 w/Steve Winwood)

34 years ago today (3/11/82), Jimmy Page released his first solo album, the soundtrack to Death Wish II. Following a short lived stab at super-group XYZ with members of YES,  Page was asked by his London neighbour, movie director Michael Winner, to record a soundtrack for the film Death Wish II in late August 1981. Page was given a deadline of a few weeks to write and record the album at his personal studio The Sol and to travel on location to Los Angeles with Winner for songwriting themes. This album is Page’s only solo material to appear on Led Zeppelin’s record label Swan Song Records.

Watch Page perform “Who’s To Blame” from the Death Wish II soundtrack, live at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England on September 20, 1983 during the Concert For ARMS. Steve Winwood guests on vocals on this bluesy gallop of a cut.
