35 years ago today (10/14/81), Prince released his fourth studio LP Controversy. By this point Prince had a grasp on his Minneapolis sound that merged funk, new wave and soul following 1980’s Dirty Mind. Controversy, not only expanded on the sound of Dirty Mind, but also saw Prince take on more serious issues like sexuality and the Cold War.
