40 years ago today (11/19/80), Blondie released its fifth album Autoamerican – a diverse statement that covered an array of genres ranging from the cover of The Paragons rocksteady number “The Tide Is Hight” to “Rapture” which implemented disco and hip hop and is one of the first mainstream songs to incorporate a rap section. Blondie set the course as stylish trendsetters and the album hit and reached No. 3 in the UK charts, No. 7 in the US, and No. 8 in Australia.
