40 Years Ago Today – Bruce Springsteen Released ‘The River’ Double LP (Watch “Out in the Street Live ’80)

40 years ago today (10/17/80), Bruce Springsteen released one of his many masterpieces – the double LP The River Originally, Springsteen intended The River to be a single set entitled The Ties That Bind and released in late 1979 with 10 tracks. Springsteen added darker material after he’d written the title track and The River came to be what it is today, even hosting a 2016 tour with the album played in its entirety.
