40 years ago today (6/2/78), Bruce Springsteen released his fourth lp Darkness on the Edge of Town. Darkness is considered by many to be one of rock’s greatest records and a shade below Born to Run on most fan’s favorite LP polls. Though the album failed to generate any substantial hit singles (“Prove It All Night” made it into the Top 40 in the U.S. at No. 33 and follow-up “Badlands” just missed), there is hardly a tad of filler on the album.
