40 Years Ago Today – Iron Maiden Released Self-Titled Debut LP (Watch Live at The Rainbow ’80)

40 years ago today (4/14/80), Iron Maiden released their debut self-titled LP. The band only featured two members that are current today (Steve Harris and Dave Murray), yet the album was a defining statement in bridging the new wave of British Heavy Metal with a punk aesthetic. The band would take on a new direction with Bruce Dickinson as lead singer in late 1981, yet Maiden’s early material contains some of their most straightforward and heavy material.
