40 years ago today (4/22/80), The Cure released their second studio album Seventeen Seconds. Considered their first foray into their gothic soundscapes that would become their sound through a couple more albums, Seventeen Seconds also marked the departure of original bassist Michael Dempsey who would be replaced by Simon Gallup. Gallup’s rhythmic and potent post-punk bassline would steer a moody consciousness below Robert Smiths’ narrative yet dark vocals. Check out one of rock’s most perfect tracks ever “A Forest” from Seventeen Seconds.
