45 years ago today (6/26/76), The Grateful Dead released the double live album Steal Your Face – which has since become an international emblem of all things Dead. The skull and lightning logo was designed by late Bear Stanley on a whim of sorts, but the music on this is pure ’70s dead at his most hedonic. The album was recorded October 17–20, 1974, at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, during a “farewell run” that preceded a then-indefinite hiatus.
