50 years ago today (7/6/71), trumpeter, composer and singer Louis Armstrong. who was one of the most influential figures in jazz died at age 69 from a heart attack. Many listeners identify him with the iconic ballad “What A Wonderful World, but his trumpet playing changed the scope of the instrument in a jazz setting and his personality was tailor-made as a front-man and entertainer.
