50Years Ago Today – Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Dies at 69 (Watch Live In Amstersdam ’33)

50 years ago today (7/6/71),  trumpeter, composer and singer Louis Armstrong. who was one of the most influential figures in jazz died at age 69 from a heart attack. Many listeners identify him with the iconic ballad “What A Wonderful World, but his trumpet playing changed the scope of the instrument in a jazz setting and his personality was tailor-made as a front-man and entertainer. His voice epitomes the 30’s and 40’s of a bygone sound that still cant be touched. Watch Satchmo in all his glory from Amsterdam in 1933.
