45 years ago today (2/15/75), Rush released their second LP Fly by Night. It is their second album, following their 1974 self-titled debut but is the first with new drummer/lyricist Neil Peart, replacing John Rutsey. We can use the “and the rest is history” cliche to define what Rush would become from Fly By Night on, as they would begin their new era of daring prog, adventurous lyrics and proficient musicianship that would last through 2015. Listen to “Anthem” one of Peart’s most defining compositions (with nods to author Ayan Rand) and the lead track off Fly By Night.
