50 years ago today (5/11/70), The Beatles released what would be their final single – “The Long and Winding Road” off of the Let It Be album. The single was released a month after The Fab Four broke up and in return, this Paul McCartney sung piano ballad became the group’s 20th and last number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. Check out some live clips of the song performed with a rather sad-faced McCartney singing in the studio…

It was only an album track in Great Britain. I still don’t know why it was singled out – no pun intended – for release as a 45 in America.
Final single in the US. Their final “official” single was “Let It Be”.
Technically I think real love is the last Beatles single, after all even though he wasn’t present in the studio John wrote and sang it
Listen to John`s bass playing. Then listen to Paul bass playing on Don’t let me down. Paul always gave his all when he played.
