50 Years Ago Today – The Kinks Release ‘Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One’ LP (Listen to “Strangers”)

50 years ago today (11/27/70), The Kinks continued their streak of A rated albums with Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. Ray Davies was at his finest in this collection of songs that range from the title song that details a romantic encounter between a young man and a possible cross-dresser to the funnish “Apeman” where  Davies sings of a desire to “sail away to a distant shore and make like an apeman”. But the strongest song on the album might belong to Dave Davies for the melodic “Strangers” which was later covered by Golden Smog on 2006’s Another Fine Day.
