90 years ago today (7/16/30), “country music founder” Jimmie Rodgers recorded “Blue Yodel No. 9 (Standin’ On The Corner)” at the Victor Studios in Hollywood, with Louis Armstrong playing trumpet and his wife is wife Lil Hardin Armstrong on piano. The song was selected as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and has been covered by many including Jerry Garcia and Steve Earle.
