Happy 52nd birthday today to Oteil Burbridge who was born on 8/24/64. Trained in playing jazz and classical music from an early age, Burbridge got his first big gig with the Aquarium Rescue Unit and later was the bassist for the Allman Brothers Band up till their breakup in 2014 after Allen Woody left to concentrate on Gov’t Mule with Warren Haynes in 1997. Burbridge was the bassist for Tedeschi Trucks Band during their initial years up to 2012 and served as bassist for Page McConnell’s side project Vida Blue. Most recently however, Burbridge has been laying the bass lines for the songbook of the Grateful Dead as a full time member of Dead & Company. Watch Oteil perform “St. Stephen” at Citi Field this past summer in this special stage cam shot.

Happy B-day Oteil! Caught the show in Camden, New Jersey with my 13 year old son to honor his late mother’s memory. The band was awesome, as well as your playin’ in the band (no pun intended). Thank you for the great memories, and I wish you and your family a grateful day. Hope to see you for the years to come in Dead and Company, and tell Bobby to come back to South Florida because we really need you down here.
Happy Birthday!
