Happy 75th Birthday to Maureen (Mo) Tucker of The Velvet Underground (Listen to “White Light White Heat” Live ’67)

Happy 75th birthday today to Maureen (Mo) Tucker of The Velvet Underground. Tucker who was born on 8/26/44. One of rock’s first female drummers, Tucker contributed a minimalist but defining sound that was essential the legendary NYC rock band’s sound. Her playing style was unconventional as well, as she played standing up rather than seated (for easier access to the bass drum), using a simplified drum kit of tom toms, a snare drum and an upturned bass drum, playing with mallets rather than drumsticks. Listen to the Velvet Underground perform “White Light White Heat” live in ’67
