Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Groovin’ with Bags

It’s been raining for about three straight days here in New York, and I’m starting to think I’ve been cast as Margot in Bradbury’s All Summer in a Day. The rain has a tendency to dampen not only my pantlegs and socks, but also my spirits.

There is, however, always one positive to rainy days: lots and lots of jazz. Nothing in this world can top listening to a little yazz music in the rain, except maybe for road-head. But since I don’t own a car and I haven’t gotten action since the Carter administration, jazz in the rain will have to do. So let’s turn to one of my favorite musicians of all-time, a man so talented that after 500 listens to each song I still can’t believe how awesome it is: Nobody beats hard-bop vibraphonist Milt Jackson. Nobody. Just check out this version of The Steel Bender from a televised performance and tell me this ain’t great umbrella music…
