MMW Does The Evolution: New Box Set

Over the course of the past two years, Medeski, Martin & Wood has had a very simple philosophy –  write, tour and record. The avant-jazz groove-jammers stretched this idea out over the course of three separate tours, where they played the new material that they had just written. When each run was over they headed into the recording studio, subsequently releasing three volumes of their Radiolarians series. With the project now completed, culminating with Radiolarians III which hit shelves in early August, MMW have announced plans to release a comprehensive box set of its material which has been dubbed Radiolarians: The Evolutionary Set.

The box set, which will be released on November 24, will contain a treasure trove of material that will be sure to satisfy. Let’s check out some of the highlights from this impressive set…

The box set will include: Radiolarians I, II and III complete with bonus tracks, a 10 track disc of remixed music, a previously unreleased 70 minute live album, a double vinyl LP set consisting of highlights from the three Radiolarians albums, plus a DVD feature film entitled Fly In A Bottle directed by Billy Martin

Medeski Martin & Wood have hand selected tracks from the three Radiolarians albums to include on a special edition, high quality audio, double vinyl pressing.

Complementing the vinyl will be an eight track, 70-minute live record culled from shows recorded during the Radiolarians tours, and a ten track remix CD featuring contributions from 9 different DJs and producers.

As an amazing finale to the entire box set, Billy Martin directed the first feature film in Medeski Martin & Wood’s history entitled Fly in a Bottle. It highlights the trio’s intricate relationships with each other and with the music they have worked to create over their past 19 years as a band

The DVD sounds especially cool. Last night, Medeski, Martin & Wood kicked off their fall tour, which includes appearances at the Austin City Limits Festival and a hometown gig at NYC’s Nokia Theater on November 14.
