‘Jessica Jones’ Releases Terrifying Full Trailer

The build up to the next chapter in the Netflix/Marvel team up, Jessica Jones, has been slow and steady since Daredevil premiered on the streaming service last spring. Leaked set images trickled in throughout the summer, giving us brief glimpses at our characters and tantalizing us with possibility. The past several weeks have seen a flow of brief teasers, giving us little to go on but piquing our interest. The buzz is rising, and with just under a month to go until Jessica Jones’ November 20 release date, we aren’t done yet.

Netflix released the first full trailer for Jessica Jones today, and wow. Excuse me while I curl up in the corner rocking myself back and forth and sobbing because David Tennant is out to get me. The happy memories of Tennent’s Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who have been wiped away clean, leaving me only with fear and terror of what he might be capable of.

Tennant plays the villainous Kilgrave, a.k.a. The Purple Man, opposite Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones. A nefarious telepath, Kilgrave has the ability to make others do whatever he wants, a fact that is hinted at to terrifying results in the most recent trailer.

“He made me jump, for hours. As high as I could,” says one character, which, if they stick to the comics, is only a taste of the horrific psychopathy we’re in store for when Jessica Jones makes its debut. Another scene shows a horrified Jessica walking through a police precinct as cops and suspects stand completely still, holding guns and weapons to each other under Kilgrave’s control.

As the second effort from the marriage between Netflix and Marvel, it also introduces the next element of the MCU’s Hell’s Kitchen series with Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, who’ll be getting his own series sometime next year after season two of Daredevil. All of this will eventually lead up to the crossover series, The Defenders, a team of superpowered heroes not unlike The Avengers, but somewhat more grounded in their abilities (emphasis on the somewhat).

From everything we’ve seen so far, Jessica Jones looks to be an amazing new entry both in the canon of the MCU as a whole and as a part of the increasingly growing Netflix family of shows. We’ve still got a month to go until its release, but if this trailer is any indication, Jessica Jones may just be among the best new series released this year.
