HBO and Larry David Confirm Season 9 of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

Curb Your Enthusiasm fans got some pretty, pretty, pretty exciting news earlier today when HBO and Larry David announced plans for a long awaited ninth season of the most awkward comedy of all time. The premiere date has yet to be announced, but more details are expected in the months to come, as specifics are hammered out and locked in.

David responded to questions about why he was coming back to the series in cheeky fashion, saying, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’”

It’s been 5 years since the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm aired. While gaps between seasons weren’t uncommon for the series, fans typically only had to wait a couple of years at most. A revival after half a decade is mostly unheard of, even in today’s fluid television climate, but even after so long, fan anticipation has not been dampened.

The series remains one of the most popular HBO original series, and has the distinction of being one of the shows that launched the so-called “new golden age” of television. Its original 8 season run was a landmark of television comedy that many viewed as a natural extension of David’s other most popular show ever, Seinfeld.

In fact, the series famously served as a launching pad for a Seinfeld reunion of sorts, with the seventh season following the fictional version of David attempting to put together a proper Seinfeld reunion. That type of meta-self-awareness ran throughout Curb Your Enthusiasm, becoming one of the hallmarks of the show.

No matter what happens with the upcoming season, it’s probably a safe bet that David will continue to skewer everything from the business of production, himself, and Hollywood stardom with his trademarked irreverence and awkward comedic sensibilities.
