Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling in Talks to Join ‘A Wrinkle in Time’
Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time is potentially getting even more star-power if current talks go through. Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Mindy Kaling (The Night Before) are in talks to join Oprah Winfrey in director Ava DuVernay’s (Selma) long gestating work. Witherspoon would play Mrs. Whatsit while Kaling would play Mrs. Who opposite Winfrey’s Mrs. Which. It’d be hard to beat that line up for the famed trio who help a young girl, her brother, and a friend on their journey to find the young girl’s father. Based on the Newberry Award winning classic novel, the script has been written by Frozen writer Jennifer Lee. As of right now, A Wrinkle in Time has an expected release date of April 7, 2018.
Johnny Depp On Board for Tupac and Biggie Mystery
Johnny Depp (Black Mass) is reportedly on board to star in an upcoming thriller about Tupac and Biggie. Depp has signed onto to play LAPD detective Russell Poole, who famously investigated the killings of the rap icons near the end of his life, in the upcoming film Labyrinth from The Infiltrator director Brad Furman. The film is based on Randall Sullivan’s bestselling book that explored Poole as he began trying to solve the most famous cold cases in true crime history.
Broken Lizard Is Filming ‘Super Troopers 2’ Right Meow
Cult comedy troupe Broken Lizard has officially began production on Super Troopers 2, the long awaited sequel to their stoner classic film that spawned a billion cat games. The announcement was made via the troupe’s Facebook page and represents the culmination of a years-long effort to bring the characters back to the screen. Broken Lizard funded the movie via IndieGoGo, asking fans for $2 million to produce the film and getting an astonishing $4.4 million in return.
Harry Potter and Mr. Spock Join Forces for Anonymous vs Cartel Thriller
Daniel Radcliffe (Swiss Army Man) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Beyond) have reportedly signed onto We Do Not Forget, a fictionalized account about the battle between hacktivist collective Anonymous and the Los Zetas drug cartel in Mexico. Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven) is on board to produce the film under his Fuqua Films production company with Stranger Than Fiction writer Zach Helm is to direct the film, which follows the drama that unfolded when the collective launched #OpCartel in an effort to bring down the largest of the Mexican drug cartels.
‘Murphy Brown’ Co-star and Veteran Character Actor John Hostetter Dead at 69
The family of veteran character actor John Hostetter announced last night that the former Murphy Brown star passed away last Friday from cancer complications. He was 69. The actor has a long career on television, with appearances on Knight Rider, Hill Street Blues, and The Golden Girls before landing the recurring role of John, the stage manager of Murphy Brown’s show within a show FYI. The actor also had a vast voiceover career, lending his talents to the likes of G.I. Joe, Transformers, and the Hayao Miyazaki classic Castle in the Sky.
