Last night (November 5), Spoon re-entered the late-night circuit with a stirring performance of their latest hit “Wild” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The popular cut comes from their 2022 album Lucifer on The Sofa, which was released in February of this year and recently gained a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The veteran rock band sounds like they never left their prime after coming off a year of touring their latest LP and they brought that undeniable energy to national TV

Since their early 90s debut, Spoon has kept up a prolific release schedule without falling victim to repetition. The early 2000’s saw a new level of fame for the band as their vulnerable single “The Fitted Shirt” became a breakthrough for their career. Fast forward to 2022 and Spoon shows no sign of slowing down. Since the release of Lucifer on The Sofa, the band has been on and off gigs and even followed up their 11th studio album with a remix album that featured Adrian Sherwood reconfiguring the arrangements for songs from the original album.

While the remix album was more recent, Spoon stuck with the organic sound of the original version for their Colbert appearance last night. The low lights set the mood as the band tore through the guitar-heavy energetic cut. The rawness of lead singer Britt Daniel’s voice gets an extra layer of grit when performed live, adding to the overall tone of an already densely textured record.
