SONG PREMIERE: Casey James Prestwood Drops Classic Country Twang On Sparkling “Wine Drunk”

It feels like old-school country revivalist Casey James Prestwood might just really echo the Gram Parsons vibe that so much of his music and photographs radiate. With a mix of colorful openheartedness, effervescent country, and honky-tonk whirl of days gone by; Prestwood surely has a place at the lineup card with Colter Wall and Charley Crockett.

After starting out his career with a more indie-rock vibe, Prestwood was nominated for Honky Tonk musician of the year at the 2020 Ameripolitan Awards. Described as a “country-music encyclopedia,” he’s known to talk about legendary session musicians while spinning “a yarn the size of Texas.” Often decked out in a rhinestone suit made by the legendary Manuel Cuevas, his live performances have enthralled audiences all over the world. But it’s his ability to craft his own unique sound, blending traditional Honky Tonk with elements of rock, country, blues, western swing and more has made him one of the most exciting players in the genre. His songwriting paints vivid portraits of life—capturing all its nuances of heartbreak, joy, and the human experience.

Glide is premiering Prestwood’s twangy “Wine Drunk” off his forthcoming release, Where I’m Going is Where I’ve Always Been (June 16). This nugget propels with a stirring pedal steel glow while honing in on a classic country vibe that can easily be mistaken for 1972.

“The song is about looking forward to a good time, with someone you know doesn’t drink beer. I wrote it, light-heartedly about my wife’s distaste for the hops,” admits Prestwood.

“I feel like this album is more cohesive than the last in personnel and location. All of these songs were written together, and supposed to be featured that way. Working with Producer Justin Trevino was a dream. I also had the fantastic Hank Singer returned on fiddle, Tyler Hall on Steel. Sierra Ferrell was a delight on “Out of Place”, plus, two of my 10-year-plus mainstays Jeff Martin on Bass/Kevin Finn on drums, Amber Digby on harmony vocals (always an honor) Floyd Domino on keys.
