A quick perusal of the track listings of two Freddie King releases from the Seventies on Cotillion Records (or this video) reaffirms why the man left his mark on subsequent generations of bands. In fact, it’s really a moot point whether he is as famous or influential as those two other blues icons with whom he shares his surname (B.B. and Albert): Freddie King Is A Blues Master and My Feeling For The Blues each delineate the Texas native’s refined taste for classic material and his distinct touch on the electric guitar. Plus, both those LPs were produced by the late King Curtis: the saxophonist oversees fulsome arrangements, including keyboards and horns, so neither album is merely an exercise in guitar heroics.
