Pullin’ ‘Tubes: DJ Shadow Gets Excited

Back in 1996, DJ Shadow dropped his groundbreaking, and critically acclaimed debut Endtroducing…. The album, made up entirely of  samples, featured snippets of everything from A Tribe Called Quest to Nirvana to Bjork to Kraftwerk, creating a heady, layered, mind bending and sonically diverse record that has has been named to just about every Best Of list since its release. In the 14 years since, the pioneering Bay Area-based turntablist, whose dedication to the art of crate digging resulted in one of the best scenes in the 2002 documentary Scratch, has taken long stretches of  time in crafting full length follow ups.

While Shadow has kept busy over the years, notably recording and touring with like minded DJ Cut Chemist and more recently dropping a pair of EPs this year, he will release only his fourth studio album, Less You Know The Better, on September 27. Last week we got our first taste of what’s to come with the music video for the record’s first single, I’m Excited, which features globetrotting sounds and a guest appearance from Afrikan Boy.

Let’s check it out…
