Bonnaroo organizers just announced the members of the famed SuperJam, and like the city of Springfield, it’s all over the map. This, from Superfly:
Bonnaroo continues an annual tradition with an all-star SuperJam, starting at midnight on Friday, June 15. Former Led Zeppelin bass player JOHN PAUL JONES will anchor a trio featuring one of music’s most innovative modern bluesmen, guitar wizard BEN HARPER, and Roots drummer AHMIR “?UESTLOVE” THOMPSON. The SuperJam is one of the most highly anticipated features of the festival, combining the talents of a diverse set of musicians for a one-time-only collaborative performance. Past participants have included Stewart Copeland, Herbie Hancock, Dr. John, Trey Anastasio, and many other musicians of the highest caliber – and if history is any indication, expect special guests to join the fun.
John Paul Jones, Ben Harper and ?uestlove may be the weirdest collaboration yet, but this speaks to the true eclecticism of the festival this year. We’d hesitate to call Ben Harper a “guitar wizard,” but these are the days of mighty fluff.
If I were picking my own SuperJam of the artists that are confirmed at the festival, I’d have to go with a dual kit of Stewart Copeland and Stanton Moore, Jack White on lead, Bobby Weir on rhythm, Ornette Coleman on sax, Lily Allen on vox, John Medeski on organ, TLG’s Trevor Garrod on keyboard, and Ween’s Dave Dreiwitz on bass. Oh, and me on the triangle. Given this year’s stellar lineup, what’s your perfect SuperJam for the 2007 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival?

Mine might look something like this…
Craig Finn (Hold Steady) – Vocals/Guitar
Jorma Kaukenon – Guitar
John Medeski – Keys
Glenn Kotche – Drums
Sting – Bass
There are too many talented folks for my little brain to try and come up w/ a cool SuperGroup. But it wouldn’t include Jack White, between him and his ego there’d be no room left on the stage.
I think that crazy lineup is what the superjam is all about
I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again: Russo, Metzger, John Paul Jones. And one still photo of the look on JPJ’s face when Russo starts playing.

Talk about culture clash
Ben Harper not really a guitar wizard? Have you heard or seen him play?! This is going to be a ridiculous super jam.
Blah blah superjam blah…the real question is how did you guys find the valentine I sent to JPJ in 1990???
the black keys and the white stripes playing together
I think ?uestLove played in another Superjam back in 04 or 05. I was there and we were like, “Is that the dude from The Roots? The Roots aren’t even here! I love Bonnaroo. These mushrooms are awesome. Did you see that guy just puke… What time is it?”
Ahhha, here it is:
Bonnaroo 2005 Superjam featuring Herbie Hancock, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson and Pino Palladino.
Can’t find a link to the set though.

Best triumvirate post ever?
John Paul Jones and ?uestlove are going to be a stellar rythm section. Love to see Luther and Skerik round it out, though.
