Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Kate’s Comeback – Bush’s New Video

Admittedly I didn’t know very much about the music and career of Kate Bush before sitting down to write this post, but after doing some research I learned the British singer-songwriter’s story is quite fascinating. Ms. Bush earned early success right out of the gate with the release of her critically-acclaimed 1978 debut album The Kick Inside, at the tender age of 19. The record peaked at number three on the UK charts, and the album’s first single, Withering Heights, earned Bush the rather interesting distinction of becoming the first women to have a number one single in the UK, with a self-written song. Over the course of her 30+ year career, Bush has become one of the United Kingdom’s most successful solo female performers, doing it with her own signature style that has been clearly influential on the likes of Bjork, Joanna Newsom and PJ Harvey.

What’s even more fascinating about Bush, is that she has essentially become just an album artist, having only toured once in her entire career, all the way back in the Spring of 1979, and subsequently only making the occasional live appearance. After releasing a string of records early on, six in an 11-year span, Bush has only managed to put out four since 1989. It’s been a big year for fans of the singer-songwriter, as earlier this year Bush released Director’s Cut, a collection of re-recorded songs from two of her older releases – The Sensual World and The Red Shoes. Several weeks back she released 50 Words For Snow, a seven-track collection of sweeping and ethereal new songs, with the shortest clocking in at just under seven minutes long. Let’s check out this animated music video for Mistraldespair which is culled from a section of the 13-minute-plus track Misty…
