Rob Huebel’s ‘Do You Want To See A Dead Body’ Is A Madcap Comedy Fever-Dream

[rating=9.00]

Today on YouTube Red, the video site’s new subscription service, debuts Do You Want To See A Dead Body, an original series from actor/comedian Rob Huebel, and to describe it as “unique” would be something of an understatement. Based on the series of Funny Or Die sketches, the premise goes like this: Huebel plays himself (or, at least, a version of himself), and spends an entire episode with one of his famous friends (Terry Crews, Adam Scott, John Cho, among many others — all playing a similar exaggerated version of themselves), looking for a dead body.

Now, how or why Huebel knows about this dead body is never explained — which is part of the fun. But this doesn’t even begin to cover just how bizarre the show gets. Each episode, Huebel and his counterpart get completely distracted from the task at hand (again, that task is going to find a dead body), and get into some kind of off-beat hijinks, from quicksand to rabid dogs to fights on nude beaches.

Huebel, who was at the Austin Film Festival to premiere a handful of episodes, described it as “really an absurd show,” and said he was able to lure in the impressive array of co-stars by “writing jokes for them.”

“Everyone likes to be funny, so it was just a matter of coming up with an idea that would be a good fit for their personality. It’s something I’m really proud of. It’s so aggressively stupid.”

Do You Want To See A Dead Body is currently available on YouTube Red, which is offering a free three-month trial period before committing to a subscription. You can also watch the first episode for free here
