The Brickhouse in downtown Phoenix was more like an oven on a recent Friday night. Many people cleared the room before the headliner Talib Kweli even entered the stage, as the temperature rose well past 100 degrees. Yet Kweli, with his predictably smooth rhymes and easy backbeats, managed to pull off a compelling show despite the elements and those who stayed were lyrically impressed.
The initial scene is a bit of a shock, as bikers rummaged through hippie and Bisconaut’s cars, combing for glass bottles and drugs. But, after you realized that nothing keeps people in line more than the threat of a biker beating, things ran flawlessly.

While Dax’s voice can successfully range all over the map, his song writing focuses in one realm – darkness. His soon to be released album is titled We Sing of Only Blood and Love and that sums up the content nicely, with the love being more on brooding tip as opposed to puppies and flowers.
Much has changed for the Black Crowes since I last reviewed them for Glide during the first and last shows of their reunion run at Hammerstein Ballroom two years ago.
