The B List: Stage Setlist Porn Pt. 2

It turns out I’m not the only who digs looking at stage setlists from various bands, as we’ve gotten plenty of good feedback about last week’s B List featuring a batch of setlist porn. Well, as promised we’ve got another round of 20 incredible artifacts from a variety of bands that we found at various places around the ‘net.

Wilco’s February residency at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago featured the band playing their entire repertoire over the course of five shows. We found a stage setlist from the fourth night, as well as a few from various points in their career.

May Flowers: Good Day Sunshine

Springtime means several things: the return of flip flops and sundresses, baseball season in full swing, margaritas, outside seating at restaurants, playing hookey from work and busting out music that always sounds better with the sun shining.

Just like whiskey tastes better in the winter, certain artists just feel more like “spring.” Here are some favorite springtime artists and some recommendations for that sun-drenched day playlist:

The Allman Brothers Band – The Allman Brothers Band and springtime always seem to go great together. Back when there was an actual spring in April, the Allman’s Beacon run was an annual celebration. Unfortunately this year, April in New York City has consisted of about 3 spring-like days total and the Allmans had to cancel their Beacon dates due to Greg Allman’s illness.

1. Blue Sky – Live at Jones Beach 1990
2. Jessica – Live in Gainesville 1982
3. Dreams – Live at the Syria Mosque 1970
4. Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More – Live in Macon 1973
5. Little Martha – Performed by Leo Kottke

This week the federal government will initiate the first round of the economic stimulus tax rebate checks designed to provide 130 million Americans with a minimum lump sum of $300 or $600 for joint filers. While the rebates are designed to help Americans combat gas and food inflation and provide stimulus to the sputtering economy, everybody knows the retail sector will reap the benefits.

Thus, we checked in with some of our favorite musicians to see what they plan to buy with their rebates and formulated a little quiz. See how well you know you know the shopping habits of some of the music world’s best and brightest.

Glen Phillips: The Secrets of the New Explorers (EP)

Catching up with Glen Phillips, ex-member of Toad the Wet Sprocket, might surprise you with what he has to offer on his new EP, The Secrets of the New Explorers. He and friend John Askew decided to record six songs about a random subject that actually meant something to both of them: space travel.  The result is a nice collection of songs, all with a “back to the future” feel to them.  I can’t tell if it’s a sound that Phillips will continue to pursue, but the EP’s standout, “Solar Flare,” was worth the effort. Travel on.

McDowell Mountain Music Festival: Scottsdale, AZ 4/25-26/08

What is it about festivals these days? How come every-time I visit a music related blog that’s not hyping Vampire Weekend, they are announcing another festival whose lineup card is bragging “my lineup can kick your lineup’s ass.” And more likely than a $5 bottle of Aquafina, that lineup will include Flaming Lips, NIN and Wilco.
