Salty blues, free flow’n hip hop & roots. You call it the way you hear it, because G. Love and Special Sauce doesn’t fit into a typical music genre. But after 13 years of playing music one thing’s for certain… the Philly band always keeps it served up like a cold beverage.
Created following the dissolution of Phish in 2004, Strange Design sets a purpose similar to that of Grateful Dead re-creationists Dark Star Orchestra. The members—guitarist Matthew Chase, bassist Ben Markowitz, drummer Adam Chase and keyboardist Aaron Levy—don’t just play Phish tunes; they inhabit them. Also like DSO, they play entire shows exactly as they were played originally, fine-tuning each detail to ensure faithful reproduction.
Our good friend Scott Gordon taped Radiohead’s mind-blowing performances at the Hollywood Bowl on August 24 and 25 and has given us the go ahead to share them with our loyal readers. We’ve uploaded the tracks to Imeem for those of you who want to stream, but we’ve also got FLAC and 320kbps MP3 downloads for those of you who want to add these stellar recordings to your collection. On Thursday night at the Park West in Chicago, former Tombstone Blues Band bassist Mike Gordon treated fans to a show that was unbelievably strange, even for eccentric Cactus. Gordon brought out stilt walkers with human puppets, jugglers, a hula hooper and other circus performers to help him act out the story behind Andleman’s Yard from his latest album, The Green Sparrow.
