After two days soaking in the Florida sun, you’d probably be ready to find some shade. As luck would have it, the DeLuna Fest has got that covered as well. From the great food vendors, some of whom provided covered seating, to shaded hammock stations from ENO, it wasn’t too hard to find some respite from the late summer heat.
On the duo’s fifth studio album, Negotiations, The Helo Sequence continues to build on their sound of enthusiastically percussive, melodic tunes. Singer Brandon Summers’ vocals remain as dreamily light and airy as always, though still, as always, suffused with an emotive intensity that drives the listener forward.
Right The Stars is fronted by Los Angeles singer/songwriter and producer Rich Jacques. He recently produced Kina Grannis' album Stairwells, the first single "Valentine" has 13 million youtube hits and the second "In Your Arms" has almost 7million. He’s also been working with ABC Family writing and recording songs for Tyler Blackburn including the first single “Find A Way.” Jacques had quite a lot to share when we recently spoke with him.
Free Magic might sound too arcane for its own good, but the title track, coupled with "Ballade in C Minor, Vergessene Seelen," interweaves the exotic sounds of the opener in almost equal proportion to the traditional piano trio approach. "Where's Sly," from their second album in 1993, It’s A Jungle in Here, thus becomes a refreshing and emphatic close to a recording that, through the course of its playing time, develops an identity all its own…much like the band who made it, by the process of constant reinvention.
Now in its third year, the festival promises good times on a pristine white sand beach. Where else can you have your feet in the ocean whilst enjoying a rock show?
If the Friday of DeLuna Fest 2012 was any indication, then Saturday was sure to satisfy. Another perfect day in Pensacola Beach awaited throngs of music lovers at the front gates as the festival opened.
Punishing and brutal; sweeping and cinematic, are just several adjectives that would not be out of place to describe Swans’ 12th proper studio album, The Seer. And at nearly two hours in length, the allusions to film are not that misleading.
Enjoy the Company ends on a bittersweet note, with a tease of how good the record could have been.
Whitmore mentioned this show was being filmed so perhaps a DVD will show up down the line and it would be well worth the purchase, but before then, make sure you catch this great artist when he comes a’ramblin’ near you.
As George Lewis Jr. and Co. took the stage at the Crescent Ballroom on Sept. 4, it took about two minutes to start constructing a fantasy what he might be like if Prince were to take him under his tiny purple wing and spin him into a sexy stage-dominating Rock God. It’s not to say that George Lewis Jr. aka Twin Shadow is in need of improvement. It’s just that the fantasy is not so far fetched. In fact, Lewis has all the traits of a Prince protégé: laser-like focus, miles of sex appeal, chops that don’t stop and a voice that croons and emotes. Oh yes, Prince would have snatched this little puppy right up.
