Throughout the 1990s Perry Farrell’s traveling Lollapalooza festival was a staple of the summer concert season bringing together an eclectic mix of acts from the worlds of alt.rock, metal, hip
This spring seems to be loaded with a number of high profile releases. Among the ones we’ve been excited to hear is the Drive-By Truckers’ ATO Records debut, The Big
While Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have been no strangers to the road over the last decade, the classic rock act hasn’t released anything in the way of new material since 2002’s The Last DJ. That will all change when Petty & Co. drop their 12th studio album entitled Mojo via Reprise Records later this Spring, and have wasted no time in announcing a massive summer arena and shed tour in support that kicks off in Raliegh, NC on May 6.
Joining Petty on various stops will be an impressive and diverse group of opening acts that includes My Morning Jacket, Drive-By Truckers, Crosby Stills & Nash and Joe Cocker – a slot that helped put 70 Volt Parade on the map back in 2006.
Tickets will go on-sale beginning March 8 via Live Nation, with those purchased online to include not only an MP3 download of the entire new album upon its release (with First Flash Of Freedom and Good Enough available at the time of purchase), but a selection of handpicked live tracks from the tour – pretty sweet deal!

2010 has some great albums on the way, and some are already here. Charlie Hunter released his most recent effort on January 12th, the Disco Biscuits supposedly have their first studio effort in eight years coming in March and Drive-By Truckers also release a new disc that month. Check this piece to see what these bands and others were up to on the road last week.

Artist & Title: The Brew – Chance Reaching
Date & Venue: 2010-01-29 House Of Blues, Boston MA
Taper & Show Download: Ted Gakidis
HT contributor Wade Wilby headed out to the House Of Blues last week, and as I always do, I followed his thoughts on Twitter. Since he’s not the easiest person to impress, I took note of the comment that, “At moe. HOB. The Brew is ferocious. See this band asap”. The track I have selected is from the band’s 2008 release Back to the Woods. The band also opened their set with the theme music from Back To The Future, which is just awesome. The Brew play tonight with Particle at The Jewish Mother in Virginia Beach.

For most of the 1980s and ’90s, it wasn’t officially summer until the Grateful Dead came through town. The same can be said for a new generation of music fans
The aughts have been quite the decade for Eric Clapton fans, as Slowhand has been going through a career renaissance having reunited with both Cream and his former Blind Faith
It’s been quite some time since the HT Crew got together for an old fashioned cookout, and frankly the ol’ grill was getting a bit dusty and feeling neglected. With the summer – and for that matter the decade – rapidly coming to a close we figured we’d round up the gang, throw some large hunks of meat on the fire pit and crack open a few 21st Amendment Brew Free! Or Die IPAs for another rousing edition of At The Barbecue.
It’s hard to believe that the aughts are almost in the books, so with that in mind we thought we’d take a look at our favorite releases of the decade. The rules were simple: any album released between January of 2000 and December of 2009 (though we’re not quite there yet) were game. Since we got most of the Hidden Track staff contributing, we’re going to split this topic into two parts, so make sure to check back next Friday for the second installment. So, let’s get at it…
Luke Sacks: Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
It took me about six seconds to decide that Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was my favorite album of the ’00s. The poster child for what was wrong with the record business was not only my favorite album of the decade but the documentary that captured the trials and tribulations of its recording and release, is a masterpiece in itself.

Drive-By Truckers front-man Patterson Hood’s second solo record, Murdering Oscar (and other love songs), flows like a DBT rock show—hook ‘em, rest ‘em, then beat ‘em senseless—and while saving the best for last may not always be the best recipe for an album, Hood leaves nothing on his plate.

Artist & Title: Cornmeal – When the World’s Got You Down
Date & Venue: 2009-06-05 – Wakarusa Music Festival, Ozark AR
Taper & Show Download: Sam Stratton
It’s apparent to me that Summer Music Festival Season is in full bloom based on all the great tapes that keep coming out of recent weekends and quickly making it up onto the Live Music Archive. Leading off this week we’ve got a track from Cornmeal with a little help from friend Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth. Cornmeal will be playing MANY more festivals this summer and they play tonight in Memphis with Outformation.
