At Hidden Track, we are generally a bit wary to put our stamp of approval on any of the uber-hyped buzz bands until we’ve had ample time to sit with said act’s album to give it a proper listen. Heading into October’s CMJ Music Marathon that band was the UK-based The XX – who had just seen their self-titled debut released in the US and played a relentless schedule of day parties and showcase appearances that week.
Primarily a collaboration between long-time friends Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim, who met while in elementary school, The XX put out an interesting blend of synth-y, down tempo lo-fi indie-rock mixed with Sim’s and Croft’s hushed dreamy indie-pop lyrics.
