Another Slowdown for ‘The Flash’

It seems that DC’s Scarlet Speedster has been slowed down once again. Months after losing director Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), The Flash lost its replacement director when Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) abruptly announced his departure from the project yesterday. Citing creative differences, Famuyiwa expressed his remorse over the rejection of his pitch and wished everyone involved the best of luck. Originally slated for a release on March 16, 2018, the move puts the release date in likely jeopardy. This is the latest in a string of problems for DC’s cinematic universe, following the lukewarm reception to both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Conflicting reports of strife on the set of Wonder Woman, set to be released next year, have also plagued the company as it attempts to build a brand that can compete with Marvel’s MCU.

From ‘Deadpool’ To ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’?

Following his abrupt departure from Deadpool 2, there were rumblings that director Tim Miller was beginning work on another, potentially huge, new project. Now, it’s been confirmed that the director is busying himself developing a live action/CGI hybrid adaptation of the Sega classic, Sonic the Hedgehog. Working with Miller is his longtime partner Jeff Fowler, whom is making his feature directorial debut with the new project. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Golan the Insatiable) are penning the script for the family friendly movie. The movie is a bit of an odd choice; while Sonic the Hedgehog has maintained a high level of popularity over the years—indeed, the character has come the closest to dethroning Mario as video game mascot king—it’s hard to see what they can bring to a Sonic movie that’s both interesting and true to the character. But hey, that’s never stopped them from making a video game movie before.

Paul Feig Wants More ‘Ghostbusters’

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters director Paul Feig said in a new interview that he would love to direct a sequel to this summer’s most divisive film. Prospects seem unlikely at this point given the film’s lackluster return at the box office, but the director also notes that the movie is finding its audience more and more now that it’s out on home video platforms. It’s totally possible that the home release push for Ghostbusters may inspire Sony to take another shot at the rebooted franchise, though previously there have been indications that the studio is unwilling to risk it again. As unlikely as it all is, it is nice to know that Feig remains positive on his work despite the negative backlash against the film, which started a full year before it had even been released.
