Film Bits: Arnold Schwarzenegger is Back in ‘Killing Gunther’

Arnold Schwarzenegger Lampoons Himself in ‘Killing Gunther’

Arguably the best move Arnold Schwarzenegger made with his late-stage career was deciding not to take himself too seriously. At 70 years old, there’s not much left to do besides lampoon yourself, and he’s done a remarkable job recently of winking and nodding at the absurdity of his turn as The Greatest Action Hero of All Time. With Killing Gunther, the once and future Terminator looks to take things a step farther. The first trailer for SNL alum Taran Killam’s action mockumentary showcases the perfect sendup for Schwarzenegger’s illustrious career, and it looks funny as all hell to boot. Schwarzenegger stars as the titular Gunther, the world’s greatest assassin, who is being hunted by a group of hitmen looking to make names for themselves. Depending on how hard they lean into their concept, there’s a lot of potential for both comedic and action gold in this action-packed spoof. We’ll know for sure when Killing Gunther hits VOD on September 22.

‘Super Troopers 2’ Trailer Delivers Exactly What it Needs

Broken Lizard is back. The comedy troupe behind Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest are set to return with a sequel to their breakout cult classic, Super Troopers 2. The first trailer for the upcoming film showcases more of what made the original movie such an endearing presence back in 2001. Can lightning strike twice? Hard to say, but it’s nice to see the gang returning for more low-brow antics. This short teaser reveals little about the plot of the film, but the plot isn’t really the point of a Broken Lizard comedy. Super Troopers 2 hits theaters (appropriately) on April 20, 2018.

Liam Neeson Stars as Deep Throat in ‘Mark Felt’

While the story of Watergate and the investigation by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein has been done to death over the years, we’ve never gotten a real look inside the man who brought down the Nixon administration, Mark Felt. Dubbed Deep Throat in the press, Felt supplied the threads of information to Woodward and Bernstein that led to their Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the Watergate scandal, though who he was wasn’t known until 2005. Now, we get a look at the scandal from his perspective. Liam Neeson stars as Felt in Peter Landesman’s Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House. Based on the book by Felt, the film is set to explore his actions and motivations for revealing top secret information to the Post. The film co-stars Diane Lane, Michael C. Hall, and Julian Morris. Mark Felt hits theaters on September 29.
