Possibly the most outright bizarre film of the 1970s (or any era, for that matter) Fantastic Planet has consistently been blowing people’s minds since it was released way back in 1973. Essentially one long, strange, bad trip about humans (aka Oms) being pets to a giant/superior blue alien species (aka The Traag…who are kind of sadistic), to enter the world of Fantastic Planet is akin to being fully immersed in a mind-bending bad dream you can’t wake up from. In short, it’s something to be experienced, not merely observed, and while the film itself has achieved status as a cult classic over the years, it also boasts a fittingly trippy soundtrack to boot (think Atom Heart Mother-era Pink Floyd), which only accentuates the otherworldly qualities of the movie: a case in point is this hallucinogenic “meditation”..
