The Patriarch
Fifteen years ago today, the music world lost a living legend that made it possible for even this website to exist. No, it’s not Internet inventor Al Gore, it’s famed concert promotor and producer Bill Graham, and we honor his memory today. Graham’s helicopter crashed near Vallejo, California on this day a decade and a half ago, as […]
Who Doesn't Love Music Video?
Another one of our master scavengers on retainer dug up the ultimate present for anyone with too much time on their hands. From what I know about the world wide web, I’m guessing that’s just about every single one of you disgusting tour wooks. So from our friend Henge to you, feel free to look […]
Tea Leaf 'Ween
You’re getting older, so that likely means no more candy on Halloween. But luckily for you, Tea Leaf Green and Sirius have combined forces to make sure you’ll still get a treat. And because you’re also getting fatter, you won’t even have to leave your house or apartment to receive it. All you need to […]

These Raconteurs have a story to tell; they are one of the most exciting, tightest bands playing today, and put on one of the best shows of the year.

Scorsese & Stones Update
If you’ll kindly scroll down three posts to yesterday’s “Shine A Light: Scorsese & The Stones,” you’ll see that there’s some major ridiculousness in store for New York City on October 29th and 31st.
On those nights, New York’s Beacon Theater plays host to the age-defying Rolling Stones and one of this country’s greatest I-talian film directors in what is sure to be a star-studded event of mind-blowing, face-melting, pee-pantsing proportions.
And now, they’re making tickets available to the public…read on, sluts.
Pullin' 'Tubes
Every Tuesday, without fail, I get jammed up at work. Real, actual work. Paycheck work. And that sucks, because as much as I like earning money for a job well-done, I’d much rather hang out with youse guys and talk turkey. So on each and every Tuesday I’ll be posting a handful of classic YouTube […]
Forward, Russia : Give Me A Wall
Eleven tracks, each one a number (“Nine,” “Sixteen,” “Fifteen Parts 1 & 2”), none of it sequential, none of it essential.
The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players: Off And On Broadway
It’s a movie about a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, but there are no VH1 “Behind The Music” moments here – unless you consider shopping for organic vegetables as crazy as thrashing hotel rooms after orgies.
TV on the Radio: Paradise, Boston, MA 10/14/2006
TV on the Radio successfully transferred their studio-oriented material over to the live spectrum, although the group has become the indie scene’s new “flavor of the month” and the degree to which their new place under the spotlight will last, has yet to be determined.
Things To Do In Denver When You're Red
Everyone’s favorite redheaded singer played a free show in Denver’s Twist & Shout record store last night, and by all accounts, the event acoustically melted faces. Trey not only performed, but he also signed some shit for the lucky patrons, including but not limited to a shirtless photo of Chuck Norris (that’s not a joke). Here’s […]
Shine A Light: Scorsese & The Stones
A bit of breaking news from the weekend to report: I walked by the side entrance of the Beacon Theater on Saturday morning to find an unusual amount of activity, especially for this early on a weekend. That’s when I saw Martin Scorsese walk into the building. Now that piqued my interest.
At that point I remembered reading that Scorsese would be filming the upcoming Rolling Stones concerts at the Beacon Theater. As I walked around the building I saw that the production team had blocked off a number of local blocks, and they were loading literally tons of equipment into the Beacon. On each blocked-off street, the crew members posted fliers explaining that Scorsese was filming a movie that “takes a behind the scenes look at the world of rock and roll.”
That’s the second thing that piqued my interest that morning, so I grabbed the signage from the post and did some classic investigating…
Grousing The Aisles, Vol. I
In an effort to provide you with as much content on this blog as possible, First Lt. Scott Bernstein will scour the world wide web every week to bring you some of the best circulating torrents — both audio and video — that you may not have noticed floating around the information superhighway.
Since this post serves as the debut of this department, allow me to take a second to vouch for ScottyB. I recently bought a new iPod and delivered the unopened package directly to Scotty and his roommate, Coach, who then sent me an Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of gigs worth of sick live shows and awesome rarities. I picked out what I wanted and shot it back to them, stopping by a week later to claim a top-notch personal music device.
The point is this: ScottyB wants you all to accumulate a stellar music catalogue, and he’ll stop at nothing to accomplish that goal. Let him help you out, he knows what he’s doing here. So here’s the first installment, for the week of 10/23/06.
(Oh, and we’re also offering +10 Hidden Track Heady Points to anyone that can tell us what musical genius coined the questionable phrase “Grousing the Aisles”…)
The Hold Steady: Boys and Girls in America
It’s peculiar that The Hold Steady are considered “indie”, considering there’s no whiney “Mountain Goats/Decemberists/Shins” thing going on. Upon listening to Boys and Girls in America, you’re almost bound to ask “ what Springsteen album is this?” And throw Boys and Girls in any roadhouse bar, and a toothless trucker with a mullet will ask for another round.
S.K. Thoth – Prayformer
You never forget the first time you experience S.K. Thoth. Costumed like an ancient Greek superhero, complete with loincloth and a red feathered headdress, he is striking sight to behold. Then he opens his mouth and begins to sing in his three range operatic voice, with a violin on his shoulder, dancing like a man possessed by something otherworldly, stomping rhythms with his heeled sandals and belled ankles making an indelible impression in your mind.

Mickey Hart: Rhythmic Science (INTERVIEW)
Sharing the anchor spot with Bill Kreutzmann will undoubtedly by his most notable achievement, but it's far from Mickey Hart's only contribution to music, history and even science.
Back To That Same Ol' Place
A long weekend of collegiate homecoming and Tea Leaf Green at The Vic awaits…sweet home, Chicago. I originally planned to post the first installment of “Grousing the Aisles” today, Scott Bernstein’s weekly series of what’s flying under the BitTorrent radar. Instead I got caught up with another heroic effort by one of the Flying Molina […]
Golem!: Fresh Off Boat
If Golem! would have let their raven hair down and stomped around the studio a bit more, Fresh Off Boat could have risen above kitsch.
