During a relatively brief tour of just 15 shows, Phish packed many highlights into the run that concluded in Atlantic City on Halloween. Phish kicked off the tour with a festival show in Texas, three consecutive nights in Colorado, two in the South, six at old school locations in the Northeast and a triumphant three night run in Atlantic City. The buzz throughout the last week or so of the tour was palpable with several shows destined to go down in the history books and be re-visited many times for years to come.
So what did everyone think?

In the most lopsided of question of not only this survey, but all the prior ones as well, the resounding majority certainly felt that this was THE tour since the reunion. As Phish nears the 100 show mark since Hampton, it’s hard to argue that several of these fifteen were not among the best.
Overall Grade for Fall Tour
Solid again, with a much larger percentage of fans scoring a B+ or higher than previous tours. Only 10% scored a B or lower. For three of you, we’ll catch you at the next WSP show.

American jazz trio The Bad Plus have a way of completely deconstructing covers, while still maintaining the essence of the song that attracted us to it in the first place. For an

Azure Ray fans have been eagerly anticipating their return, despite the lengthy wait. Taylor and Fink certainly delivered in many ways on Sunday at the Independent, but at times their musical weaknesses (lack of experimentation, crowd connection and risk-taking) became particularly apparent in the live setting. Even so, it was a thrill to see them back together again. The show was a night of real emotional catharsis, and a great way to bring Taylor and Fink back into the indie music fold.
They are devastatingly serious when it comes to their ass kicking hardcore punk style and hysterically uproarious with their song writing; they are the one and only No Redeeming Social Value from New York City. In the tough guy/beat down world of Hardcore Metal NRSV’s style is a welcomed change of pace, never taking themselves to seriously, but constantly putting everything they have into their explosive style of playing; blood sweat and beers included.
Soul Mining is Daniel Lanois’ story, but it’s chock full of the people he’s shared his life with. Yes, there are chapters about his studio experiences with folks such as the Neville Brothers, Emmylou Harris, U2, and Bob Dylan, but he also acknowledges the people he feels shaped him into who he is.
The best moments of Soulive’s last visit to Vermont, in April of ‘08 occurred when the core trio had the stage to themselves and ripped it up without interruption for over thirty minutes, reminding what a powerful band they’d become in their (close to a) decade together. The high points of the Halloween run at Higher Ground exceeded even that altitude.
New Jersey-bred jam legends Blues Traveler came to Brooklyn Bowl this past weekend for a pair of sold out performances at our favorite venue in New York City. The shows were a homecoming of sorts for the band, which cut its proverbial teeth at joints like the Wetlands Preserve and Nightingale’s during the late ’80s and early ’90s before finding commercial success.

The quintet was joined by quite a few guests over the course of the weekend including Paulie Z from Z02, Lisa Bouchelle, Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors, Matt Whyte of Earl Greyhound and John Cusimano of The Cringe. Even Rachel Ray, Cusimano’s wife, was in the house and left the band some deviled eggs, which we’d imagine were yum-o.
