Jaill: Traps

Traps’ opener, “Waste a Lot of Things,” finds frontman Vincent Kircher repeating the line “yes it’s very sad” over an upbeat kick drum and bright, reverberating guitars. With its sunny guitars and bouncing rhythm, the song’s tone seems more fitting for a beach romp than for a confession that Kircher tends to waste the good things in his life. Such is the case for much of the album, Jaill’s second for Sub Pop Records.

Van Halen: New Orleans Arena, New Orleans, LA 6/26/12

The last show of Van Halen’s tour was everything you might expect it to be: David Lee Roth did his fun schticky vaudevillian act, Eddie Van Halen took your breath away with his finger-tapping, Alex Van Halen did what any disciple child of Bonham would do and pounded the hell out of his drums with sticks the size of Redwoods, and Michael Anthony … well, he wasn’t there.
