As we mentioned weeks ago, Phish has decided to put one of the group’s best shows of 2010 as a DVD/CD release called Phish – Live in Utica. Today, the band has officially announced the set and has put together a few pre-order packages for Dry Goods.
The DVDs feature every note Phish played on October 20, 2010 at the intimate Utica Memorial Auditorium including a section of pure “hose” that develops out of Have Mercy and numerous teases of Guyute that led fans to label the show “Guyutica.” Those fans who pre-order the set through Dry Goods will receive a bonus disc called Phish: I-90’s that, “follows the band along the I-90 New York Thruway as they honed their skills in drummer Jon Fishman’s home state, recalling highlights from some of the region’s many great Phish shows in the 90s.” A landmark version of Slave to the Traffic Light that contains Ramble On teases from August 12, 1998 and a high-energy romp through David Bowie from November 4, 1994 are just two of the tracks featured on the Phish: I-90’s compilation.
The following line from the band’s press release has us particularly intrigued, “A new camera mounted at the front-of-house position accentuated the light show in a way never before featured on a live, indoor Phish DVD.” You can order the Phish: Live in Utica box set through Dry Goods now and it will ship on or around May 13, just before the official May 17 release date.

Thirteen years ago today Phish’s much-beloved Island Tour came to as close in Providence, RI. Over the course of four shows, which were organized quickly to give the band a break from prepping the Story of the Ghost LP, Phish built on the funk-laden improvisational style it had honed in 1997 and debuted three new songs they were working on. All in all, the Island Tour stands out as one of the best four-night stands in the group’s history.
For this morning’s video post we’ve compiled playlists of all four Island Tour concerts made up of newly-ripped videos uploaded by YouTube user Duanebase. Back in 2005 Phish put out perfectly-mixed official recordings of each show that are must-haves if you don’t own them already. Let’s go to the videotape…

Nearly six months after rumors started circulating that Phish would throw a festival at Watkins Glen International race track over the Fourth of July Weekend, we finally have an announcement. The festival will be called Super Ball IX and will take place from July 1 – 3 in Watkins Glen, NY.
This marks the first music festival at Watkins Glen since the legendary Summer Jam from 1973 that featured The Band, the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band.
Last month Phish announced the first leg of a summer tour that includes four shows in New York State. We thought perhaps the festival wasn’t going to happen since the band scheduled so many performances within striking distance of the Finger Lakes region. Guess we’ll see how the previous announcement effects attendance at Watkins Glen.
Tickets go on sale this coming Monday, April 4, through Phish’s MusicToday ticketing site. Travel packages are available through CID Entertainment and camping information – including a “tental rental” option – is laid out on the SBIX site.

Phish’s first-ever shows in Japan took place during the Summer of 1999, when the band traveled across the Pacific to perform at the Fuji Rock Festival. A new Live Phish release titled Japan Relief looks at the July 31, 1999 show from Fuji Rock to benefit Peace Winds America with proceeds going to help the disaster relief efforts following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that wreaked havoc on Japan.
Not only is all of the July 31, 1999 show included in the release, but the What’s The Use? soundcheck from July 29 is also included. Due out on April 15, this new download/CD features the potent Also Sprach Zarathrustra > David Bowie that kicked off the second set, a human rights speech by the band’s friend, Nawang Khechog, who also sat in a unique Brian and Robert. Yet my favorite moment is the Prince Caspian. Yes, I’m not shitting you – this version of Caspian finds guitarist Trey Anastasio demolishing the solo with speed, passion and precision using a delay-heavy tone. You can purchase the MP3s now for $9.99 with FLACs and ALACs going for $12.95.

Cover Wars March Madness rolls on. We’ve had our play-in round and our first full round of 32 covers and we’re left with our Sweet 16. We are in our third year of this tournament and we have just now done the obvious, we have generated an actual bracket so you can visualize how this is all going to go down. Have a look and be sure to vote in all eight matchups.
Matchup #1
Phish debuted this cover at Alpine Valley in the Summer of 1998. As most Phish fans know, there has been one other performance ever and it was the following week at Vernon Downs where the band paired Ramble On with their own Slave To The Traffic Light to close the first set. There are some killer Ramble On Teases in the Slave jam. Source: 8-1-1998

UPDATE: The text in all the descriptions for Cover Wars March Madness are taken from the original editions which at times – are out of date. As one of our readers pointed out in the previous round – Phish has since performed one more partial performance of Ramble On, and yes – it was pretty terrible.
VS.
Wilco recorded this cover for the 2006 Big Star covers record Big Star Small World. Though never played live by Wilco, the song has made at least 11 appearances at Jeff Tweedy solo shows.

You might remember Michael Printup as the Watkins Glen International president who denied that a Phish Festival was confirmed to take place at the track over the Fourth of July
Phish fans were surprised to see that the group’s Utica show from last October wasn’t included in the latest batch of Live Phish remasters. According to a listing on the
