When I started writing this weekly feature, I had the goal of showcasing new bands each week that had not previously appeared on Last Week’s Sauce. Well that’s officially over. There were just too many HT favorites out on the road last week for me to continue that trend…

Artist & Title: The Disco Biscuits – Uber Glue > Sabre Dance
Date & Venue: 2009-05-30 – Red Rocks, Morrison CO
Taper & Show Download: Matt Quinn

The Disco Biscuits crossed a venue off their “to play” list this past weekend when they packed over 6000 fans into Red Rocks for an event they dubbed Bisco Inferno. This song combination features one of tDB’s newer instrumental compositions paired with an Aram Khachaturian’s composition from 1942 (an instrumental that had not been played by tDB in 5+ years). Sabre Dance has been used in many television shows, movies, etc…but the image it always conjures up in my mind is that of the 1985 flick Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. tDB play tonight in Providence.

The history between the two bands continues this weekend when DMB takes the stage for two shows at Fenway Park with Willie Nelson opening up both performances before Phish plays a Fenway show of their own on Sunday. Then, both bands head to the Big Apple early next week for Phish’s three shows at Jones Beach and DMB’s special intimate show at the Beacon Theatre on Monday celebrating the release of their new album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.

With that in mind, we’re taking this opportunity to look back with a special audio history detailing the numerous collaborations there have been between the two bands over the years…

Bloggy Goodness: Free NINJA EP

In anticipation of this summer’s Jane’s Addiction and Nine Inch Nails joint amphitheater tour, the two powerhouse alternative rock acts have launched a brand new website to get their fans ready for action. The sightly sparse site, which includes links to all the band’s social networking sub-sites, also features a free six song EP that contains the studio debut of two Jane’s tracks that Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor produced – Whores and Chip Away – both of which originally appeared on their 1987 self-titled live album.

Finally, we don’t often talk about movie trailers around these parts, but there have been two very cool ones that have surfaced over the last couple of days that we wanted to share. The first is for the highly anticipated, Spike Jonze directed adaptation of the classic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are – which features the music of Arcade Fire and is set to have a soundtrack from YYY’s frontwoman Karen O. The second, is for Ang Lee’s adaptation of Elliot Tibor’s memoir Taking Woodstock – which tells the behind the scenes story of how the festival ended up at Yasgur’s Farm.

HT Interview Exclusive: David Butler – President of Ticketmaster North America

Last week, Ticketmaster took some major heat for an unplanned and accidental presale for tickets for Phish’s four performances at Red Rocks this summer. Fans that thought they had stumbled onto a surprise jackpot had their orders canceled and received an email from David Butler, President of Ticketmaster North America, explaining why.


In an exclusive Q&A with Hidden Track, Luke Sacks spoke with Butler, who is responsible for Ticketmaster’s primary ticketing business in the US and Canada, via phone about the cause of the error, how Ticketmaster is working to thwart scalpers, what band he has seen nearly 50 times himself and more.

LUKE SACKS: Let’s start with the incident last week when tickets for the Red Rocks shows went on sale early. Speculation among fans has ranged from a simple computer glitch to Ticketmaster secretly activating that link so scalpers could get in and do their thing. From your perspective, can you walk me through what happened?

DAVID BUTLER: Absolutely. It was fundamentally human error by an employee of Ticketmaster in our Rocky Mountain region. An experienced person, who has been with us for years, accidentally, in releasing the show to be visible on the website that the on-sale was coming, accidentally made it appear to be on sale against the desires of the promoter or the artist. It was really just human error. She was trying to set it up so the show would be apparent with the future on-sale date so the fans would know it was coming. She just goofed.

LS: So that happened, all these orders were filled and eventually the decision was made to cancel these orders. Who made the decision to cancel the orders and subsequently to send out the $50 credit? Were those solely Ticketmaster decisions? Was the band or their management involved?

DB: To be clear, the mistake was totally ours at Ticketmaster and that’s why we sent out the gift certificates. Our policy is, if there is ever an error and the event goes on sale prior to the on-sale date, even if its on our website, that we will invalidate all the orders and if any money is taken we will refund it because we have to protect the integrity of the artist and the promoter that the show goes on sale as announced to the fans. So that’s exactly what we did.
