‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Gets Release Date

rsz_rogue_nation

Against all odds, the cinematic Mission: Impossible series has not only continued now for 5 films, but has somehow gotten better as it goes along. That’s a rarity for sequels, but the Tom Cruise starring vehicles continue to be an impressive moviegoing experience that rake in big dollars around the world. So of course we’re getting another one. Mission: Impossible 6 was greenlit almost immediately following the release of Rogue Nation last year, and Cruise has teased it was going to be even bigger and more explosive than anything that came before it. Now, we finally know when we’ll get the chance to see it. Mission: Impossible 6 has been locked in for a July 27, 2018 release date. Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to return to the franchise, and is currently in the process of developing the script with Cruise.

‘Pacific Rim 2’ Begins Filming, Reveals Title

pacific-rim

While it wasn’t exactly the biggest hit with moviegoers, Pacific Rim has earned an impressive following with fans, most of whom have been clamoring for a sequel almost from the very beginning. It was a modern masterclass in camp, led by visionary director Guillermo del Toro, and offered the most solid of basic premises of all time: giant robots punch giant monsters. Call me old fashioned, but that’s a concept I can get behind. While the road to a sequel was long and fraught with speedbumps, the film is currently on track and filming is now underway. To celebrate, star John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) posted a picture which officially revealed the title for the upcoming extravaganza: Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. While del Toro has not returned to the director’s chair for the upcoming outing, he has stayed on as producer, and had a hand in writing the film. Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) will be helming the film. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is currently expected for February 23, 2018.

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead ✌

Fox Looking at ‘X-Men’ Reboot Potential?

X Men Apocalypse

Fox, it seems, has an X-Men problem. The series has been troubled by diminishing interest over the last several outings, with their latest, Apocalypse, being met with generally bad reviews and low interest. Additionally, their various spinoff series—Deadpool 2, Gambit—have been beset with problems of their own. Deadpool 2 has suffered a series of defections over the last few weeks, including director Tim Miller and composer Tom “Junkie XL” Holkenborg. Gambit has stalled. Hugh Jackman, the series’ most visible and consistent star, is leaving the franchise after next year’s Logan. On top of that, the main actors in the rebooted timeline, including Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy, have all reached the end of their contracts. All of this has led to some talk about the possibility of yet another reboot for the franchise. No word yet on what that might look like or how they’d pull it off this time—the last reboot came with the conveniently in-universe time travel motif—but they’ve got to think of something lest the rights to the characters revert back to Marvel. Anyone holding their breath for that outcome shouldn’t bother—X-Men has proven overall successful for Fox, and there seems to be little to indicate their willing to let this cash cow go.

Ezra Miller Talks The Flash

With Wonder Woman coming soon, we’re already starting to look forward to the following addition to the DCEU cinematic universe, Justice League, which finds Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman rallying superheroes to join forces against a greater threat. The trailers released at Comicon last summer garnered positive buzz online, with many looking forward to seeing Affleck and Ezra Miller interact as The Dark Knight and The Flash. Miller spoke recently with IGN to detail the relationship between the two heroes. “I think it’s the relationship between someone who is naïve and excited and someone who is experienced and jaded. It’s sort of that seeing each other as reflections a little of one another and being amused and maybe sometimes annoyed by one another. I think that Bruce and Barry get a kick out of each other because they’re seeing sort of themselves but reflected in this very warped mirror.” We’ll be able to see this relationship in action next year when Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.

‘Valerian’ Releases Stunning First Trailer

valerian

The first trailer for Luc Besson’s (The Fifth Element) latest space opera, Valerian, was finally released this morning and it’s a doozy. The teaser reveals little about the plot of the film, which stars Cars Delevingne and Dan DeHaan, but the look of the film is spectacular. Largely, Valerian looks like The Fifth Element in style, but with effects updated for the modern era. You can watch it for yourself below. Overall, things look pretty stunning. Valerian opens on July 21, 2017.
